Shimanami Kaido - 3 islands hopping journey

This route has some ups and downs and offers you experience the real pleasure of sports bike.
Also, you can experience 3 islands hopping and enjoy local foods, alcohols, sacred power places and breathtaking views which are all in the Seto Inland Sea. Why don't you come and recharge yourself?

Departure form Giant Store Imabari.

Run along the blue line (Road marking for cyclists) and head to Shimanami Kaido.

12:00

Road station "Yoshiumi Iki-iki Kan"

Let's get supplements for the next upcoming ups and downs.

Lunch time! Sea food BBQ is recommended here.

After lunch, let's go to Hakatajima island along the blue line.

Road station- Hakata S C Park "Marine Oasis Hakata"

After running down the Hakata Oshima Ohashi Bridge, you can find road station "Hataka S C Park Marine Oasis Hakata".

Take a rest here.

Tatara Shimanami Park

When you come to Omishima island, you must go the park. The "Cyclist Sanctuary” monument and Omishima Bridge are best photo spots.

Oyamazumi Shrine

Visit Oyamazumi Shrine and pray for lucky and safety.

Oyamazumi Shrine was once one of the most important shrines for samurai and today is a mecca for people interested in samurai weaponry and martial arts. Besides, it's well-known local sacred power place now.
It's a big camphor tree whose tree age is about 2,600 years old.It makes solemn atmosphere.

There is a bike parking rack next to the Torii entrance gate.
Why don't you buy a charm for your safety which can paste your helmet in the shrine?

Murakami Iseido - Japanese sweets

After worshiping the shrine, let's eat some local sweets. "Mishima manjyu" - Sweet bun

It is recommended that you buy the local sweets for tomorrow riding.

2nd day Departure from your hotel.

Skip the way you came this time, head to outer route.

*As outer route has no convenient stores and few vending machines, it is recommended that you have some drink before start.
* There are some ups and downs. Don't skip breakfast!
* There is a rest area "Cycle Oasis" on the outer route. Also, Munakata port which is away from the outer route has toilets for your rest.

Enjoy sublime views in Omishima island.

Although there are some ups and downs along sea side, tough route, but you can enjoy the local beautiful scenery which you can only see in Omishima island.

Omishima bridge

Run through Omishima bridge.
You can see beautiful arch bridge on the cycling road from Omishima island.

Road station- Hakata S C Park "Marine Oasis Hakata"

Have enough lunch because of long ride!

You can eat Shio ramen (Salt flavored ramen) here.
Now let's go back to Imabari along the blue line.

After running down Miyakubo Pass, let's head to Yoshiumi rose park along the outer route. (NOT blue line)

You can see the blooming rose in the rose season.

There are some photogenic spots and flat road between the rose park and the bridge.

It's about 7 km left to the Giant Store Imabari along the blue line.
